Ward Beebe House, also known as the John Leuthold House, 1912
Purcell, Feick, and Elmslie
2022 Summit Avenue, St. Paul
Ward Beebe, a veterinarian turned physician, and his wife, Bess Leuthold Beebe, commissioned Purcell, Feick, and Elmslie to design this house on Summit Avenue. Purcell later described the house as "a re-transcription of the Oscar Owre type," referring to the 1911-12 Owre House at 2625 Newton Avenue South, Minneapolis. Both houses feature overhanging eaves and a side entryway, and share similar plans. Purcell was pleased with the finished house and noted that the unusual corner windows allowing views up and down Summit Avenue were "accepted as a fine response towards a choice and expensive location." next stop > |
