LECTURE Rembrandt & the Design of Identity Thursday, September 6, 20127 – 8 p.m. Pillsbury Auditorium Presenter: Kaywin Feldman
Join MIA Director and Rembrandt enthusiast Kaywin Feldman for a lively tour of 17th-century Dutch art, politics, and culture.
Through portraits of Amsterdam's wealthy merchants and political elites, Rembrandt helped to design identity in the Dutch Golden Age. Not only did he fashion the likeness of individuals, but he also helped to construct the civic identity of his contemporary Amsterdam through paintings like The Night Watch.
Kaywin Feldman, MIA Director and President, began her career at the British Museum, where she worked in the education department after earning an MA in art history from the Courtauld Institute of Art, London. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate from the University of Michigan, she received her BA (summa cum laude) in Classical Archaeology. She also holds an MA in museum studies from the Institute of Archaeology, University of London.
