SPECIAL EVENT MIA & ACTC Graduate and Undergraduate Student Art History Symposium Saturday, April 13, 20131 – 5 p.m. Pillsbury Auditorium The Associated Colleges of the Twin Cities (ACTC) and the Minneapolis Institute of Arts will jointly host a day-long symposium for emerging art historians in the Twin Cities. Each participating school will select one undergraduate (plus a graduate student for those institutions with graduate art history programs) to present on an artwork or collection of works in the permanent collection of the Minneapolis Institute of Arts that relates to their ongoing research projects. Students from Carleton College, Macalester College (ACTC), the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, St. Catherine University (ACTC), St. Olaf College, University of St. Thomas (ACTC), and the University of Minnesota will present. Free YOUTH PROGRAM Studio Lab: M-U-D, Spr3 (ages 4 and 5) Saturday, April 13, 201310 a.m. – 2 p.m. Studio 111 Celebrate spring's showers by digging in and sculpting, printing, painting, and more with mud, glorious mud. Come dressed for some messiness and tons of fun. Learn to use your creativity to transform this humble material into amazing art. Aprons provided. Bring a bag lunch.

Rhythm is measured movement in time. Artists create rhythms in their work through a variety of devices, most often repetition. Discovering a work's rhythm gives viewers a deeper appreciation of the work and insights into its meaning. Creating this in our own drawings is important and powerful. Explore ideas and applications of rhythm in this class.
