TARGET FAMILY DAY The Night Sky Sunday, December 13, 200911 a.m. – 5 p.m. Museum-wide The night sky is an awe-inspiring view that has intrigued scientists and artists for centuries. At Target Family Day, discover the constellations on 17th-century night-sky maps and hear mythical tales that gave the constellations their names. Take a virtual nature walk from the earth to the edge of the cosmos with the Minnesota Planetarium Society. Create your own night-sky map in a hands-on studio. Make a spectroscope and learn how this tool helps astronomers understand the stars. Hear beautiful music from the age of Vermeer. And don't miss Vermeer's masterpiece, The Astronomer, on its maiden voyage to North America in the exhibition, "The Louvre and the Masterpiece."

TARGET FAMILY DAY The Five Senses Sunday, January 10, 201011 a.m. – 5 p.m. Museum-wide Open your eyes, ears, and nose and heighten your senses today! Hear the sounds of a lamellophone, or thumb piano, and other musical instruments on view at the museum. Imagine the flavors of fabulous feasts as you savor delicious tales in the silver gallery. Smell flowers, spices, and other sumptuous scents to help bring still-life paintings to vibrant life. Learn how artists use optical illusions to enhance how you see their art. Put on an artist's smock, work with an array of art materials, and create your own awesome artwork. And stop in for a multi-sensory experience in the exhibition "iAfrica: Connecting with Sub-Saharan Art."

TARGET FAMILY DAY I ♥ Art Sunday, February 14, 201011 a.m. – 5 p.m. Museum-wide This Valentine's Day, join us for a celebration of loving art! Visit the special exhibition "In Pursuit of a Masterpiece" and discover incredible artworks in the museum's collection. Watch Korean dance performances that will bring to life the MIA's Dragon Jar. Work with charcoal, pencil, and chalk to see if you can refigure Jasper Johns's Figure 2. Learn about the art of monotype printing by exploring the intriguing Nebuchadnezzar by William Blake. See how an Egyptian obelisk, imaginary and real animals, and kissing doves all come together in a magnificent work of art. Seek out artworks with themes of love and friendship, and make an artful valentine.
