From Frankenthaler to Freud: Master Contemporary Prints from the Permanent CollectionSunday, April 28, 2002Sunday, March 2, 2003 From its founding as the Institute's first curatorial department in 1916, the Department of Prints and Drawings has actively acquired outstanding examples of contemporary graphic art for its permanent collection. This exhibition features a selection of more than 50 prints, monotypes, and multiples by leading American and European artists of the second half of the 20th century, including Robert Rauschenberg, Jasper Johns, Helen Frankenthaler, Cy Twombly, Robert Motherwell, Chuck Close, Joan Mitchell, Jim Dine, Ed Ruscha, Joseph Beuys, Louise Bourgeois, David Hockney, Georg Baselitz, Susan Rothenberg, Yvonne Jacquette, Lucian Freud, Vija Celmins, Elizabeth Murray, Glenn Ligon, Kiki Smith, Leslie Dill, Lorna Simpson, and others. |
