Free Exhibition
A tzedakah box is a Jewish alms container which holds a unique and coveted place in Jewish tradition. This exhibition features twelve tzedakah boxes by Minnesota artists selected from a juried competition. The word tzedakah is derived from the Hebrew root tzadek, which means "justice" or "righteousness." The act of "giving tzedakah" (providing money for those less fortunate) is an actual commandment meant to bring justice to the world. The tzedakah box therefore represents a personal and intimate interaction between an individual, God, and one's community.
