Desire and Deliverance: Drama in the Old Testament

Saturday, March 6, 2010—Sunday, September 5, 2010
Gallery 315 and 316
Free Exhibition

To coincide with the Science Museum of Minnesota's exhibition on the Dead Sea Scrolls, the MIA presents "Desire and Deliverance: Drama in the Old Testament," an exploration of how artists transformed biblical narratives of Noah, Jonah, Susanna, and others into scenes of passion, morality, piety, and nationalistic pride.
The show features biblical heroics and histrionics in prints and drawings from the 16th century and later, including Albrecht Durer's inestimable Adam and Eve, eight Rembrandts, and several treasures on loan from The Thrivent Financial Collection of Religious Art.
