In their thirty-five years of collecting wood art, Dan Greenberg and Susan Steinhauser have been especially drawn to the inner beauty of a single piece of wood revealed through the turning process.

This exhibition celebrates their recent gift to the MIA of forty pieces of contemporary wood art by twenty-six artists. These range from elegant enclosed hollow vessels by David Ellsworth to intricate boxes by Ray Key and M. Dale Chase. Two major pieces in the exhibition are William Hunter?s Legends of the New World (1989) featured in the recent William Hunter retrospective exhibition, "Transforming Vision: The Wood Sculpture of William Hunter, 1970?2005," and a large turned vessel by Ed Moulthrop (1986), partially funded by Daniel Greenberg and Susan Steinhauser and the Greenberg Foundation in 2003.
