This is the third of four exhibitions focusing on designers who made significant contributions to the renowned textile production company, Jack Lenor Larsen.
Mark Pollack worked for Larsen for over a decade, from 1976-87. This was a time of tremendous growth in the company; sales were at their height and production and distribution were truly global, with thirty-one countries manufacturing or marketing Larsen fabrics.
Mark Pollack’s work at the Larsen Design Studio was a major contribution as the company shifted production from the bold, dynamic "power textiles" of the 1960s and early '70s to the subtle elegance that epitomized the fabrics of the 1980s. Pollack’s skill as a colorist was evident as the company moved away from the use of bright hues to a more reserved, muted palette. Subtle, intricate color schemes and their integration into complex geometric patterns are signature qualities of Pollack designs. These elements have made his work distinctive in a very competitive field, and were appealing to architects, maintaining an alliance that had always been important to the company.
After leaving the Larsen Design Studio in 1987, Pollack went on to found his own design firm that continues to celebrate the standards of excellence established by Jack Lenor Larsen. This exhibition celebrates the diverse Larsen textiles produced during these years and will also include several fabrics from Mark Pollack’s current collection.
