Join us for the 29th year of Art in Bloom, a four-day festival of fresh floral arrangements and fine art, presented by the Friends of the Institute at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts.

This splendid spring celebration and fund-raiser highlights the talents of more than 150 floral artists, whose work will be on view next to the works of art that inspired them. From Thursday through Sunday, you'll experience the floral fragrance throughout the museum, enjoy a lecture or demonstration, attend a party or free docent tour, and browse in the Art in Bloom Shop. more

Art in Bloom Lecture by Gordon Hayward
Pillsbury Auditorium

Gordon Hayward, a nationally recognized garden designer, writer, and lecturer, has been designing gardens for the last 26 years from his home in Vermont. He has written for Fine Gardening and Horticulture magazines. Inspired by his new book, Art and the Gardener, his talk will explore the visual language shared by painters and garden designers. Hayward will spend Wednesday viewing the MIA's collection and incorporating references from it into his insightful lecture.

Art in Bloom Floral Demonstration
Pillsbury Auditorium

"European Floral Art and Design," by René van Rems

California-based Dutch master designer René van Rems, AFID, will take us on a tour of current floral trends, showcasing design styles and techniques, including German hand-tied Biedermeier bouquets, Dutch parallel design, and French Country. The talk will feature flowers, exotic materials, botanicals, and supplies as they relate to the latest trends. Van Rems has presented at Art in Bloom twice before. His arrangements will be auctioned after the program.
